A Million Little Fantasies
Like everyone else on the planet, I have been looking forward to reading A Million Little Pieces, James Frey's supposedly non-fiction acount of his harrowing descent into addiction and subsequent heroic personal recovery without benefit of Alcoholics Anonymous. Well, it turns out that this former frat-boy from Dennison fabricated the interesting stuff, mobsters, felonies, prison-terms, etc., and presumably most of the rest as well. In reality, like many of us, he did get pulled over for drunk driving once, but that's about it. The rest, including his supposedly starring role in the death of a beautiful cheerleader, is lies.
What a chump!
Happily, since finding out this information, I won't have to bother to read the thing, which is apprently both horrible and sexist. How, then, may you ask, did it end up as an Oprah book club selection? Isn't Oprah a feminist? Hmmm, good question. For your answer, you might notice that her current website homepage is filled with advice about how to look younger. 'Cuz remember girls, our most important duty is to remain attractive to manly men like "Big Jim" Frey.
